After a thorough analysis comparing 378 metro areas, it turns out that Decatur is the second-best place to work in manufacturing in the U.S. Only Ames, Iowa, was listed ahead of Decatur, and no other Alabama city made the top 25.

Those included the percentage of workers employed in manufacturing, job growth, income growth, housing costs and the unemployment rate. In terms of job and income growth, both a three-year period and a one-year period were reviewed.

Why Decatur?
Decatur is the second-best place to work in manufacturing in the U.S. thanks to several factors. For starters, 27.41 percent of the workforce is employed in manufacturing. Plus, the unemployment rate is low at just 2.4 percent!
Another deciding factor was the 9 percent one-year job growth increase in Decatur from 2019 to 2020. Looking at the three-year period from 2017 to 2020, that number jumps to nearly 15 percent!
