Local Spotlight: North Alabama Mural Trail

North Alabama Mural Trail

Are you looking for creative ways to get out and explore Alabama? You are in luck thanks to the North Alabama Mural Trail and Decatur’s own Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association.

The Mural Trail

As it turns out, Alabama loves art in many forms, shapes, sizes and mediums—including murals! This is particularly true for the northernmost counties of the state. Hence, the creation of the North Alabama Mural Trail!

To clarify, the trail includes more than 125 murals across 16 counties. But don’t think you have to travel all over North Alabama to take in the works of art. Several murals are located closely together in several cities.

For example, in Decatur, art appreciators can find at least fivemurals on the trail throughout the city. Visitors can admire a mural reminding us all to “Bee Kind,” especially to those with mental disabilities.

Yet another mural calls for the city to “Bee United.” It is one of the murals that is part of the larger local project meant to unite and inspire through art. It’s called The Chasing Art Project.

Another mural that is a part of the project is one of the most recent ones in Decatur. Painted by Decatur High School fine art students, the mural is titled “Decatur Naturally.” The design features the varying landscapes found in and around the city like a lakeshore and mountain peaks.
